These are but a few of the damages that can be caused by basic engine/shaft misalignment. now comes a discussion of why, unlike in an automotive applications, boat engine drive systems do not indefinetly remain in alignment and need to be periodically checked and realigned.. A demonstration on how to properly assess and align the shaft, strut and engine in an inboard ski boat. recorded from the 2010 correctcraftfan.com midwest ru.... Shaft alignment is not that critical for the aquadrive, but the drive train must be set up with a couple degrees bend. otherwise, it will not get lubricated properly. an aquadrive allows you to float the engine on softer beds, lessening vibration..
Prop shaft alignment. perry munson’s tip for aligning a prop shaft. by perry munson posted jun 8th, 2011 at 10:32am. here’s one series of tricks that actually works if your boat is out of the water. 1. loosen the hose clamps and remove the rubber boot from the front end of the shaft log. 2. slide it and the packing gland ahead on the shaft.. I seperated to coupler, went under the boat and slid the prop shaft back, got it to move and heard a pop. then the shaft startrd turning nice and easy, hmmmm. back top side, pull the shaft seal, pull the coupler, and try to turn the v-drive again, nice and easy now, hmmmmm.. Many consider running-gear alignment to be a black art. at a yard i once managed, i clearly recall watching a contractor, who specialized in this work, take a decidedly seat-of-the-pants approach to “calculating” shaft weight and the associated sag or droop..
